I just know that you’re allowed to add 9.09% of other alcohol to your whisky and still call it whisky, something that no one else is allowed to do… Here I have one of the new bottlings from their new Rare Releases series for 2017 – specifically, Lot 40 Cask Strength 12 year old. This is part of what is known as (collectively) the Northern Border Collection, and I’ll be reviewing the other members of this collection shortly.

    With the release of Lot 40 Cask Strength 12 Years Old, Canada has a rye whisky that stands with the very best whiskeys of any style anywhere. Previous to this, I’d include Canadian Club Chairman’s Select 100% Rye in that pantheon as well as J.P. Wiser’s 15 years old (subject of a later review). If you like Lot no. 40 (at all), you should buy this. Amazing whisky. Exceptional (3% of whiskies I’ve reviewed to date receive this, my highest recommendation).
